Rebellious, selfish, litigious: each term aptly describes modern society. Gone are the days, or so it seems, of the teachable spirits of genuine humility and respect for authority. We now live in the brackish backwaters of a philosophy made popular by 1960s Harvard psychologist Timothy Leary: “question authority.” In time, this doctrine of disobedience has seeped into the more sophisticated proclamation: “I have my rights!”
