In Ezekiel’s vision of the desolation of Jerusalem, the glory of God left the Temple and rested nostalgically on the Mount of Olives before departing the scene. In the same way, Acts 1 tells us the risen Jesus departed to heaven after pausing here briefly, and the assurance was given that He would come back in the same way – bolstered by a promise from Zechariah that it will be on this place that God will set foot when He returns.
