Romans 3:21 – 31
“But now . . .” (Romans 3:21). What a difference these two small words make! They mark a major transition in the book of Romans. Before, we lived under God’s wrath (1:18), but now we live under God’s grace (3:24). Then, we were spiritually dead and proven guilty in ourselves, but now we are spiritually alive and declared righteous in Christ. Then, we lived condemned by the Law and in need of rescue from ourselves, but now we have received forgiveness by Jesus’s blood and have been provided with salvation through faith. What brings about such radical changes? Hard work? Religious activity? Personal sacrifice? No, none of the above. Rather, it’s all due to God’s gift of grace.
