John 4:1-42

In the highly prejudiced society of first-century Palestine, few people were valued less than a Samaritan woman, and that was particularly true of those known for their loose living-like the Samaritan woman Jesus met by a well in Sychar. Jesus conducted a soul-touching dialogue with this hurting woman. He treated her with dignity and respect as He appealed to her kindness, curiosity, and deepest desire for acceptance. He addressed her personal concerns about her past, her conscience, and true longing to know God and worship Him. In so doing, He revealed Himself as the Messiah, the compassionate Saviour of all.
