The Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem was a joyful festival that trumpeted God’s provision. Pitchers of water would be filled at the Pool of Siloam, and in the midst of noisy celebrations the water would be carried up to the Temple. For Jesus to stand up on the greatest day of this feast in particular and offer streams of living water – that must have been a curious wake-up call indeed.
